VOLKSWAGEN JETTA TDI CUP QUALIFIES ANOTHER ROUND OF TEN FINALISTS AT THE SECOND
KARTING QUALIFIER EVENT AT F1 OUTDOORS

Ten additional finalists are selected to advance to 2010 Final Driver Selection Event

BOSTON, Mass. – The Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup held the second karting qualifier event on September 21st at F1 Outdoors in East Bridgewater, Massachusetts. Twenty drivers from all over the United States and Canada ran four timed qualifying sessions in identically prepared and weighted CRG Kali Karts with Rotax engines. The top ten finalists of the day will advance to the Final Driver Selection Event to be held in early February of 2010. The results of that selection process will then decide the field of 25 drivers for the 2010 season of the VW Jetta TDI Cup.

“Karting has proven to be a constant source of some our most talented drivers from the past two seasons of the VW Jetta TDI Cup,” said Clark Campbell, Motorsport Manager of Volkswagen of America. “Judging by the talent our karting finalists have demonstrated on the track during our qualifiers, our Final Driver Selection Event will host fierce competition for the coveted 25 driver positions for the 2010 season.”

The finalists selected from the September 21st qualifier include:

Geoff Arnold, Kingsley, Pennsylvania

Nick DeCuzzi, Brunswick, Ohio

Jarvis Gennari, Boca Raton, Florida

Kevin Gleason, Johnstown, Pennsylvania

Brandon Goad, Akron, Ohio

Keegan Higgins, Cornelius, North Carolina

Michael Hogg, Vancouver, British Columbia

Nate Norenberg, Plymouth Minnesota

Christopher Stone, Park City, Utah

Myron Turner, Audoban, Pennsylvania

Two returning drivers from our 2009 season, Jake Thompson of Calgary, Alberta, and Andrew Novich of Novato, California, also participated in the karting qualifier and will be eligible to win their 2010 season fee for the top karter chosen to drive in the 2010 season.

“I was very pleased with the level of driving during our second qualifier”, states Jan Heylen, VW Jetta TDI Cup driving instructor. “We had several drivers who have competed on a national level; including title holders in the highest levels of karting. It was also great to see that drivers with little or no experience were able to compete and hold their own on the track. We had a few inexperienced drivers in the top ten and I am very excited to see how they perform at the Final Driver Selection Event in February.”

Finalists chosen on September 21st will move on to the Final Driver Selection Event to be held the first week of February, 2010. The final selection event includes three days of professional driving instruction, media and marketing training, a sponsorship development workshop, fitness training, Volkswagen brand familiarization, autocross sessions and track time in a Jetta TDI Cup car. At the end of the three day event, twenty five drivers will be named as our 2010 VW Jetta TDI Cup competitors. The top karting finalist that is chosen as one of the 2010 drivers in the Jetta TDI Cup will win their $45,000 season fee. The next karting qualifier will be held on Saturday, November 14th at F1 Outdoor in East Bridgewater, Massachusetts. Information on the future karting qualifier event and the online application are available at www.volkswagenjettacup.com.
