The Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup
The SCCA Pro Racing Volkswagen Jetta Cup was launched in 2008 as way to introduce clean diesel technology to the U.S. market and develop the best of motorsport’s up-and-coming talent. During the season, young, up and coming drivers (between ages 16-26) compete on road
courses around North America in identical factory-prepared clean diesel Jetta TDI’s. Each driver competing in the series earns a Pro Racing license from SCCA at the conclusion of the season. In addition to more than $50,000 in prize money at stake during the season, the series champion receives Volkswagen factory career advancement
support with a value up to $100,000.
For just $45,000 for the season, The Volkswagen TDI Cup offers up-and-coming drivers 10 races across North America. Before the season begins, each driver goes through an extensive selection process and attends the Final Driver Selection Event. It is in the final round of the selection process that our drivers
receive several days of instruction in driving, physical fitness, sponsorship & marketing, media training, and VW brand familiarization.
Our drivers also receive tremendous local and national media coverage, as well as the opportunities to race alongside several major racing events. For those who didn’t get to see the TDI Cup cars on the track, you can catch our documentary, “Racing Under Green” on YouTube. The series offers aspiring drivers
great exposure throughout North America and the opportunity to pursue a professional career in racing. Past participants of the TDI Cup are currently running in the Koni Sports Car Challenge, the Grand Am Continental Tire Challenge, as well the ADAC Formula Masters series and the Scirroco Cup in Europe. The 2008 champion was also given
the opportunity to test and race in the Seat Leon Touring Car Series in Europe.
On top of media coverage, the Volkswagen TDI Cup also pays out over $50,000 in purse winnings and Volkswagen factory career advancement support with a value up to $100,000. Karting finalists chosen to move on to the Final Driver Selection Event will need to pay their season fee by December 10, 2010. The Final
Driver Selection Event will be held in early 2011.

Arie Ouimet, 2010 VW Jetta TDI Cup Driver
"Karting is the purest form of motorsport, and a place to build your foundation for a future in motorsports. It is also the first step to becoming a top driver in the VW Jetta TDI Cup, the results speak for themselves. This offers karters a great opportunity to showcase their
skills against their peers for a chance to become a professional race car driver"
Jarvis Gennari, 2010 VW Jetta TDI Cup driver
Karting is a great way to learn the many skills needed for car racing. It has taught me how to “drive the line”, understand how and why the karts handles the way they do and the competitive training to be the best I can be. Karting is a great stepping stone to the VW TDI Cup
Series as it gives you an edge as you enter the next level of driver development.
Roger Hayden, World Superbike Tour motorcycle racer
“It’s funny, as a guest driver I was planning on coming out, having some fun and just relaxing, but once I got out here I became competitive and I wanted to finish as high as I could. I had a great time out here - everyone at Volkswagen has been so wonderful and I couldn’t
wait for the race to begin”
Michael Hogg, 2010 VW Jetta TDI Cup Driver
"Having come from karting, I saw the VW Jetta TDI Cup as the best possible option for my jump to race cars. They are possibly the best development series in the world, and are looking to develop you in to a professional race car driver. When you have a name like Volkswagen behind
you, it really means something."
Nate Norenberg, 2010 VW Jetta TDI Cup driver
Racing in karts before getting into the TDI Cup car is like learning how to crawl before you can walk. It teaches you the fundamentals of racing. The same can be said for the TDI Cup. It teaches you how to walk before you can run, but the TDI Cup isn't your everyday drivers nursery.
The skill level and competition is second to none, and it prepares you for the next level of racing.
Rune Glifberg, X-Games skateboarding champion
“I really had a lot of fun out there. I think I was able to learn a considerable amount throughout the weekend and overall, it was a great experience. The Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup is truly a great Series, these drivers are so talented – I saw plenty of close,
competitive racing today and I’m glad that I had the opportunity to participate.”
